| Announcement: We are thrilled to announce that the art of Brazilian artists Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos and the late Darcilio Lima (1944 - 1991) appear in a two person exhibtion at the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick opening July 1 and continuing through September 30 2022 |
| "I consider Darcílio Lima an ancestor, someone who came before me and to whose lineage I belong. In a way, my work is a continuation of his.. I found in Darcílio Lima the master I never had." - Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos "At this moment I sense the freshness of Jasmin, which is the breath from the lips, the rustle of their silks, and the furious hoof beats of their stallions, while their flowing hair and the manes of their beasts split the rushing wind like the finest blades. They will open the Grand Portal." - Darcilio Lima, 1972.
"Darcílio Lima had strong ties to the Brazilian avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s, especially Ivan Serpa, who mentored the younger artist between 1967 and 1969. Lima’s figurative, densely symbolic work takes a very different direction than many other Brazilian artists at the time, who embraced geometric abstraction. This work gives form to a fabulous hallucinatory universe presided over by a bestiary of hybrids and mutants. In Lima’s work, polymorphism of gender and sexuality rule, while opposites of every kind—human and creature, pleasure and violence, power and submission—are fused."
